Still, Urban isn’t terrible and this is the first Call Of Duty map pack we can remember where one of the maps wasn’t a remake of an older one. As a result even the best players will find themselves dying again and again, with little time to plan or event react. It’s very old school Call Of Duty, but it feels too restrictive compared to the other maps – even after it transforms for curfew. This is easily the weakest of the four maps, as although it has an interesting dystopian look to it it’s very small and the multi-storey building in the middle is the only real landmark. It’s very much the opposite to Core, with lots of wide open spaces that inspire a naturally slower pace of combat.Ĭall Of Duty: Advanced Warfare – Havoc (XO) – beware of the bombs dropping out of his hatįinally there’s Urban, which is set in an Atlas ‘aid’ camp, similar to the one in the story campaign. We don’t know if such things actually exist in America or not but it looks like exactly the sort of place you’d find The Joker using as a secret base. The theme for the map Sideshow though is very different: a clown-themed hotel (although it too is in thorough disrepair). The tight corridors and secret hiding spots mean you’re constantly being set upon by opponents you had no idea were there, although there are a few larger rooms if you’d rather take your chances head-to-head.Ī broken down nuclear power plant may sound like a fairly generic setting for a Call Of Duty map but it’s actually rendered fairly lively by all the repair robots wandering about and getting in your way. The celebrity voice actors (John Malkovich, Rose McGowan, Bill Paxton, and Jon Bernthal from The Walking Dead) all put in fun performances, and help give the impression that serious time and money was spent by Activision, as well as just you the player.Īs for the four new competitive maps, they all make excellent use of the Exo suit’s jump ability – with complicated vertical designs that are a world away from the flat 2D mazes of earlier games.Ĭore is especially complex, as it’s all set in a run down nuclear power planet – with scrapyard walkways, underground pipes, and vats of curiously non-lethal toxic waste.
